Macy’s, famously known for its large department stores, just started selling vegan handbags made by New York based brand GUNAS in their New York City store. As part of their commitment to go fur free by 2023, Macy's is also investing in the vegan accessories space. Founder Sugandh Agrawal first announced the news at the VEGPRENEUR Plant-Based Entrepreneurship Panel in NYC this past October.

In 2018, GUNAS was chosen for the Best Independent Handbag Award out of 4000 applications from designers worldwide at the IHDA in NYC. Winning the award resulted in an entry into the Macy's annual business workshop which takes place at their HSQ at Herald Square. This workshop serves in part as an opportunity for Macy’s to review new potential brands for their store, as well as to prepare the participating designers to work with big box retailers, such as Macy's.

Founder Sugandh Agrawal shares, “Soon after the workshop I kept the dialogue going with their Accessories team. The VP of Accessories, Holly White really loved the brand and the concept and agreed to launch with a small collection at the Macy's headquarters on 34th street. It's a huge step forward for the ethical fashion movement and paves way for many other brands like mine to enter the market and be seen as a new form of luxury.”

In 2020, Agrawal will be working on expanding the GUNAS Macy's partnership to a larger scale. The handbags are now available for purchase at Macy’s flagship store in NYC.
