HappyCow, the world's leading online guide for plant-based dining, today announced that Asante in Barcelona, Spain, has been named the #1 vegan restaurant in the world in its highly anticipated 2025 Top Global Vegan Restaurants list.
The ranking, derived from an analysis of millions of reviews from its global user community, is the first major initiative under the brand’s new owner, renowned vegan consultant Claudia Torres.
The list of 81 restaurants reveals key trends shaping the global plant-based landscape. The data shows a clear "decentralisation of vegan excellence," with top-rated establishments increasingly found outside of traditional capital cities. Restaurants in Cardiff (Wales), Bristol (UK), and Kyoto (Japan) feature prominently, proving that world-class vegan cuisine is flourishing in diverse local communities. The report also highlights the emergence of new vegan hotspots, with Athens, Greece, showing the highest density of high-ranking restaurants.
"Authentic reviews are crucial as they provide genuine insights. Our thoughtful approach to ranking not only ensures that emerging favorite spots receive the recognition they deserve but also that well-loved establishments continue to shine for their consistent quality," said Claudia Torres, CEO of HappyCow. "Our community plays an essential role in this process. Every review they share not only helps fantastic restaurants stand out, but also contributes to the growth of the vegan community worldwide.”
The 2025 list was determined by a reliability score that considers the overall rating, the quantity and quality of reviews, and how recent those reviews are, ensuring the results reflect the most current dining experiences.
