Blackbird Foods Announces Acquisition by Ahimsa Companies

Blackbird Foods, a leading plant-based food brand known for its chef-crafted pizzas, seitan, and wings, has announced an acquisition by plant-based investor Ahimsa Companies. The acquisition marks a new chapter for Blackbird Foods as it expands its reach and innovation in the plant-based space.

Blackbird Foods is best known for its New York-style, hand-tossed frozen pizzas, which are available nationwide at major retailers such as Target, Sprouts, and Whole Foods. In 2022, the company introduced crispy, meaty plant-based wings, crafted from seitan to complement its signature pizzas. Since then, Blackbird WINGS have expanded into four varieties and recently launched in The Fresh Market and Wegmans.

Looking ahead, Blackbird Foods plans to leverage Ahimsa’s expertise to enhance its distribution and manufacturing capabilities. “We are eager to tap into Ahimsa’s extensive knowledge to strengthen Blackbird’s presence in the frozen aisle. With their support, we have ambitious plans for growth and exciting product innovations on the horizon,” said Mike Pease, co-founder of Blackbird Foods.
