Indian Pantry Brand Launches South Indian Meal-Building Podis

Annavana, a modern Indian pantry brand, has officially entered the U.S. market with the debut of three South Indian podis: Idli Chilli Podi, Karivepaku Podi, and Kandi Podi.

The company also announced it has raised an undisclosed amount from angel investors to support its launch and early go-to-market efforts.

The name Annavana is a portmanteau of anna (food) and vana (forest). Founder Amulya Panyam envisioned the brand as a "forest of meal-building options," designed to transition from kitchen to table in under 10 minutes.

The collection is a tribute to Amulya’s roots in Kurnool, India. Growing up in a traditional household, there was a podi for every occasion, serving as the flavorful foundation for everything from quick snacks to full family meals.

“Podi looks like a seasoning, but it is surprisingly substantial,” says Amulya. “Mixed with rice and a measure of ghee, it is a complete meal in itself.”

Annavana’s podis are shelf-stable meal builders crafted to be mixed with ghee or sesame oil and sprinkled directly onto rice, idlis, dosas, and vegetables. The launch lineup includes three distinct flavor profiles:

-Idli Chilli Podi: A zesty, flavor-forward blend that serves as a popular and versatile staple for rice bowls and traditional pairings.

-Karivepaku Podi: A punchy, robust blend based on curry leaves that brings distinct savory notes to simple meals.

-Kandi Podi: A comforting, earthy, and nutrient-dense blend that adds as much flavor as it adds substance to the meal
