What led you to where you are today? 

I was born and raised in West Texas, and saw firsthand the destructiveness of animal farming (specifically, LOTS of cattle). In college I planned to become a doctor, though my course changed when I took an Environmental Ethics class as part of my Philosophy major, and realized I wanted to use my science knowledge to make a positive impact in the world. After completing my MS in Biochemistry, I joined the early team at Impossible Foods where I worked in R&D to help develop and launch the Impossible Burger. I have since consulted with 10+ plant-based companies internationally and also worked with VCs and angel investors to fund impactful early-stage startups.

What types of companies are you looking to invest in?

My sweet spot is consumer products that are technology driven. I also want to see more women and POC founders starting companies. I believe Republic is a great way for them to fundraise, since investing still heavily favors white males.

What do you look for in companies and founders?

In addition for the need for more women and POC founders in the space, I believe the best founders are confident yet humble. They know they can achieve their goals, and they know the best ways to ask for help. They are self-aware, empathetic, talented leaders, willing to wear multiple hats and do whatever it takes to succeed. They are also visionary - they know their WHY - and can navigate difficult challenges while staying connected to their purpose.

What can you help the VEGPRENEUR community with?

I'm happy to connect founders with the Republic investment team or other investors who may be a good fit; I can give advice on fundraising, product, and business strategy; I can keep my eyes out to help find the right people for startups that are hiring.
