Title of the Role: Facilities Director


Short Description of Role: Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge, an animal sanctuary that provides homes to rescued farm animals, is looking for a Facilities Director to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the upkeep and daily maintenance needs of the Refuge. This position involves construction projects, vehicle maintenance, and landscaping tasks. The ideal candidate will be someone with a passion for animals, a diverse set of construction and maintenance skills, and a commitment to becoming a long-term member of our team.

Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge provides lifelong care to rescued farm animals, educates people about the realities of animal agriculture, and promotes veganism by offering knowledge, support, and community.

Compensation:

We are offering $19 per hour for this position

Full-time permanent position, at 40 hours per week

Requires schedule flexibility, including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed

Role Description:

Maintaining and improving existing structures, fences, roads and utilities

Assisting with the construction of new buildings, fences, roads, and utilities

Landscaping duties including planting, watering, irrigation, weeding, mowing, and bush hogging

Management of compost piles, including moving, spreading, turning, and maintaining safety

Purchasing and transporting construction supplies

Working with and leading volunteers in both larger work days and smaller construction projects, where applicable

Assisting with basic animal care duties and animal house cleaning, as needed

Transporting animals to veterinarians and assisting with animal rescues, as needed


Qualifications:

Commitment to the mission of the Refuge

Knowledge of and passion for animal rights issues and veganism is strongly preferred

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact constructively with volunteers and staff

Experience working with volunteers is strongly preferred

Resourcefulness and ability to work independently

Ability to follow detailed instructions and meet time-sensitive demands

Ability to learn and process new information quickly

Strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task efficiently and meet deadlines

Basic knowledge of carpentry and plumbing – required

Familiarity with and comfort using common hand tools and power tools – required

Basic knowledge of electrical – preferred

Experience driving tractors, hauling trailers, and use of other heavy farm equipment – preferred

Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance – preferred

Schedule flexibility to meet onsite project requirements; some weekends, evenings and holiday hours are required

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
