Manager of Community Building at New Roots Institute

Title of the Role: Manager of Community Building

Short Description of Role: Working at New Roots Institute isn’t a job for us; it’s a commitment to a cause. We are a growing nonprofit dedicated to ending factory farming, and we are seeking a passionate and experienced Manager of Community Building to join our team!

Company Description:

New Roots Institute is a nonprofit organization empowering the next generation with knowledge and training to end factory farming.

Through interactive, high school and college lessons, we inspire critical thinking and dynamic discussions about the connections between industrial animal agriculture and current key issues impacting us all—like animal welfare, climate change and environmental sustainability, human rights, and personal and public health.

Through our leadership development programs, we offer fellowships for students motivated to dig deeper into the impacts, and solutions, of factory farming—while being trained in effective communication, advocacy, and leadership skills. Upon completing the fellowship, alumni go on—with our continued support—to develop and empower other leaders to create change in their communities toward our shared goal of ending factory farming.

Role Description:

Lead and mentor a team responsible for growing our community by recruiting high school and college students, guiding them through the selection and admissions process, and empowering alumni to contribute back to the community.

Grow and diversify our community of young leaders by increasing the number and quality of applicants to our programs, ensuring strong representation across priority demographics and geographies.

Drive recruitment outcomes by designing and executing a high-impact recruitment strategy that consistently yields a robust pipeline of highly engaged, values-aligned applicants, leveraging ambassadors, alumni, and strategic partnerships.

Ensure successful cross-team coordination that results in timely application launches, aligned messaging, and seamless applicant experiences by leading collaboration with Advancement, Research & Design, and other departments.

Improve selectivity and match through effective admissions processes, ensuring the right candidates are accepted through a well-calibrated and equitable system of evaluation, interviews, and communication.

Strengthen alumni engagement and contribution by cultivating a vibrant, mission-aligned alumni network that actively recruits new fellows, supports programming, and advances our broader goals.

Use data to drive improvement, analyzing recruitment and admissions trends to surface insights and refine strategies that increase reach, efficiency, and program fit over time.

Enhance external visibility and relationships by serving as a trusted representative of our organization to students, alumni, schools, partners, and collaborators, advancing our reputation and reach.

Influence organizational strategy by contributing insights and perspectives that shape recruitment priorities, partnership development, and long-term program design.
