What led you to where you are today?
For years, I was a burned-out, anxiety-ridden fashion designer living in New York City. The only times I found peace were in yoga, so I was inspired to become a certified instructor, Ayurvedic Health Coach, and aromatherapist. My studies brought me balance through rituals, mindfulness practices, and eliminating products with toxic ingredients. According to a recent Harvard study, the average person is exposed to more than a hundred chemicals before leaving their house in the morning - all from personal care products; linked to major health issues like reproductive problems, asthma, and cancer. So in 2020, I founded Alevan Botanica to create organic wellness blends to support our wellness routines and practices.
What do you wish you knew before embarking on your entrepreneurial journey?
Just how much grit and resilience is needed to grow a business, especially in the CPG space! I also think it's helpful to get comfortable with hearing the word "no" or facing rejection as this will happen often on the entrepreneurial journey.
What is the most difficult decision you've had to make regarding your business so far?
The most difficult decision has been what areas to focus on and when. As a bootstrapped company, I find it is very important to be super strategic on goals and how you invest back into areas of the business.
What can you help the VEGPRENEUR community with?
My background before entering the wellness world is in design, so anything creative, merchandising, or branding! I also am looking to connect with like-minded businesses for potential collaborations or partnerships.
