BakeryBakery, a plant-based bakery in Switzerland opened today in the neighborhood of Breitenrain in Bern. Founder Kevin Schmid describes the bakery as “a normal bakery but more environmentally friendly and respectful of other species”. Schmid is the co-founder of Outlawz Food, a vegan food startup that is best known for creating plant-based alternatives of popular foods. The bakery serves traditional Swiss bakery items such as Caracs, Gipfelis, and various types of bread. In addition, they also offer mini pizzas, sandwiches, and pre-made salads. The vegan bakery is located within the gelato shop Gelateria Di Berna, which is closed during the winter months. Bakerybakery will find a permanent home a few streets away in a couple of months.

An employee shared with us that on the first day, Bakerybakery sold out of all products twice throughout the day. She estimates close to 400 customers stopped by.

The Outlawz Food team is currently also running a pop-up diner in the heart of Bern until the end of January. Outlawz Food became known for their plant-based kebabs and were invited to serve them at the Vegandale Festival in 2018. Schmid tells us that Bakerybakery will open its second location in Zurich shortly. He also noted that his supplier is an existing bakery but he worked closely with them to 'veganize' their creations.
