What is PATCH?

PATCH is a range of bandages made from sustainably-sourced bamboo, made by Nutricare.

The product line of bandages includes:

  • PATCH Natural Bamboo - for minor cuts and abrasions

  • PATCH Aloe Vera Bamboo - for soothing burns and blisters

  • PATCH Activated Charcoal Bamboo - for ‘drawing out impurities’

  • PATCH Coconut Oil Kids - for children (and printed with pandas!)

The Australian-based company is 100% vegan and is a certified B Corp.

How It Compares + My Thoughts:

Two things about PATCH stand out the most, its eco-friendliness and allergen-friendliness.

While most bandages are made from plastic or synthetic materials that are hard to recycle, it’s awesome to see that PATCH is 100% compostable and biodegradable, allowing people to be more eco-friendly. A video on their website shows their bandage decomposing in 10 weeks.

According to PATCH, “1 in 4 people react to common wound adhesives,” so PATCH’s plant-based materials, free from latex and parabens, allow for hypoallergenic wound-care. Great for people with sensitive skin.

Another thing that stood out to me was their packaging. I absolutely loved the look of the recyclable cylinders. Though I will admit that it was a bit difficult for me to open at first!

Before learning about PATCH I had no idea about the various issues related to traditional bandages and why switching to a plant-based option would be advantageous. I would assume that consumer education is a big part of getting their products into people’s hands. Overall, I think that PATCH is great, and I love that it exists.
