2022 and 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist Ravi DeRossi and his mission-driven hospitality group Overthrow Hospitality – together with partners Drew Brady and Sother Teague – unveil the new Soda Club – the beloved wine bar in the East Village of Manhattan which won rave reviews and a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition three years in a row for its exceptional wine and cuisine without pretension.
Now located at 95 Avenue A on the corner of 6th Street in the East Village, the new and expanded Soda Club resides in an intimate, stylish jewel box space and is helmed by Executive Chef Pedro Allende.
The menu, inspired by Brady’s childhood spent cooking alongside his Sicilian grandmother, will continue to feature a rotating menu of salads, appetizers and freshly made pastas such as Cappelletti with morel mushrooms, veggie brodo and truffle olive oil; Stuffed Pappardelle with potatoes, mint, parmesan cheese, yellow tomato sauce, black olive oil, chives and toasted almonds; and Porcini Bolognese with crispy artichoke hearts and lemon zest. New dishes include cloud-like pinsas–Roman-inspired pizzas made with long fermented dough and rice flour–with toppings such as figs, red watercress, onion jam, nduja, pistachios and olive; or carbonara sauce with apple tzatziki, smoked mushrooms, fried artichokes and arugula, created by Avant Garden and Third Kingdom Chef Juan Pajarito.
Soda Club will continue to feature over 200 natural and organic wines curated by Brady – including the brand new Alphabet Soop, a chilled red blend created and recently launched by Overthrow Hospitality – along with a full cocktail program created by Amor y Amargo’s Sother Teague and his team including Noah Green and Bruce Shultz. While Amor y Amargo – the first bitters only bar in America – is known for serving boozy stirred amaro cocktails, the libations at Soda Club will break the rules to include fresh juice, with Teague and his team also aiming to “reimagine Grappa” with cocktails such as the You’ve Come a Long Way, an amaro-Grappa sour with Grappa, Montenegro, Lemon and Cane – along with cocktails including the Avenue Arthur, a Black Manhattan comprised of Vecchia Romagna, Amaro Ciocaro, Baldoria Vermouth Dry Rosso, Scrappy’s Chocolate Bitter‘s and Orange Twist, and the Cavalletta, a Grasshopper with Crème de Cacao, Genepy, Plant Crème and Mint.
"We're thrilled to bring together two beloved concepts—Amor y Amargo and Soda Club—under one roof, and to offer the same incredible wine and food, in addition to an exceptional cocktail program by a true visionary in the cocktail world,” said Ravi DeRossi. “We can't wait to share the new Soda Club with our guests.”
The restaurant will serve dinner until 11 p.m., at which time the space will turn into a vibrant nightlife destination, offering cocktails, wine and bites such as arancini and fried gnocchi into the morning hours.
“It was always our intention to create an unpretentious wine bar; to offer something that is elevated, but inviting and accessible,” said Drew Brady, award winning wine director and Overthrow Hospitality partner. “This restaurant is especially meaningful to me as it pays homage to my grandmother’s Palermo roots.”
Located at 95 avenue A in New York City’s East Village, Soda Club will be open 5 pm - 12 a.m. on weekdays and until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturdays, with midnight happy hours and special weekly offerings including the popular "Pasta School Sundays” helmed by Chef Allende. Soda Club will continue to offer the popular “Chef’s Pasta Tasting.”
