Meet Ashiaki Tei

Company:
Talmond Foods

Not only do we make the world's first tropical almond milk, but we are turning a neglected, highly nutritious nut into sustainable and delicious plant-based products that help protect our planet and transform communities in Ghana.

Startup Stage:
Pre-Seed

When did you start the business?

2019

Location:

Accra, Ghana

What led you to where you are today?

70% of Africans are lactose intolerant (and may not even know it) and with Ghana being rich in natural resources, we identified the local tropical almond which is equally as nutritious as the conventional Californian almond but not as environmentally detrimental. With all our ingredients sourced locally, our people can have healthy, affordable dairy and plant milk alternatives.

What do you wish you knew before embarking on your entrepreneurial journey?

Choosing the right team really makes your company.

What is the most difficult decision you've had to make regarding your business so far?

We're new and may have in the past been a little protective of our company. In doing so, we've probably lost valuable people/resources.

What can you help the VEGPRENEUR community with?

I am happy to share mainly about my experience as a first mover and doing (Agri)business on the African continent.

How can the VEGPRENEUR community help you?

I would love to connect with startup founders in the plant milk space globally.

Fun fact about you:

If I could win a lifetime supply of anything, it would be boiled peanuts. I could literally eat those for days on end!
