What is Petaluma Dog Food?

Petaluma‘s first product is their oven-baked bites that contain all the nutrition your adult dog needs to thrive. The flavor is roasted peanut butter & sweet potato. According to them, this veterinarian-designed food uses only plant-based ingredients that are packed with protein, vitamins, and healthy fiber and sourced from sustainable and organic farms.

Can dogs be vegan?

Research cited on their site shows that studies have examined hundreds of dogs eating plant-based diets and found that they live healthy and normal lives. An experiment even showed that sled dogs randomly assigned to a plant-based diet maintained peak physical performance and health markers during a strenuous race. Given that dogs and cats in the US consume about 25% of all meat produced, this is much-welcomed news!

How It Compares + My Thoughts:

While I didn’t try it myself, I did fall in love with the packaging and mission of Petaluma. Their packaging is colorful and fun — this is much welcomed in the world of pet food where so many products can be very serious looking! I also very much appreciate the focus on sustainability. Petaluma has an entire page on its website focused on the impact of dog food on our environment. Their product is organic, plant-based, sourced from small farms, and sustainable packaging made from plant-based fiber instead of plastic. It’s hard not to feel good about yourself when purchasing this sustainability focused dog food. I am curious what your dog thinks of it!
