Short Description of Role: About Your Opportunity: As members of Farm Sanctuary’s Experience Team, Sanctuary Guides assist with all aspects of our Sanctuary experience. This role is an integral part of the Experience Team, providing onsite support and serving as an ambassador for the organization. As a public-facing role, this position is expected to be knowledgeable, welcoming, and courteous to our diverse audience. The Sanctuary Guide position offers a unique opportunity to work with a team of committed staff and volunteers focused on advocating for farm animals. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain skills and experience in animal advocacy work and considerable knowledge of issues around animal agriculture.

Responsibilities:

Create an inclusive, safe, and inviting guest experience for visitors and members
Greet guests, proactively engaging with visitors, providing information and way-finding
Conduct public and special VIP tours with provided script
Work alongside Wellness and Environment teams to maintain animal resident and guest safety and comfort
Support Sanctuary Shop operations
Daily upkeep of the Sanctuary Center
Complete daily opening and closing procedures
Assist with onsite Sanctuary events and outreach projects
Provide administrative assistance as needed
Provide daily reports to Manager, Sanctuary Experience, Acton
Provide Environment team with support, as needed - with responsibilities including but not limited to - cleaning animal enclosures, performing general grounds work, and participating in day-to-day animal enrichment projects

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal skills
Professional and gracious in high volume situations
Extensive knowledge of farmed animal and vegan issues
Effective communication, public speaking, and outreach skills with various audiences
Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
Efficient organizational skills and attention to detail
Team player and collaboration skills when working with colleagues
Willingness and ability to perform physical labor and moderate lifting
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, preferred

Familiarity, commitment to, and experience with the practice of equity and social justice, and the principles embedded in Farm Sanctuary’s mission

Job Specifications:

Terms of employment: Regular, non-exempt, seasonal position
Reports to: Manager, Sanctuary Experience
Pay: $17.50 per hour
Direct reports: None
Location: Acton, CA

Additional Specifications:
The time commitment for this position is from August - December 2023, with potential for permanent hire. If the position application is available online, the position remains open.
